The Korean couple, Kang Won Rae and Kim Song, had come to consider their beloved dog, Doldol, to be their only child, but not by choice.
This was because doctors had informed them that they were unable to reproduce.
Although they had accepted their misfortune and decided to be content with their devoted doggy, Doldol was sadly diagnosed with late-stage lymphoblastic leukemia in 2011…
Before long, the malignancy had spread to her lungs, liver, spleen, and spine. That’s when the couple was given the heartbreaking news that she only had about two months left to live.
Upon receiving the bad news, the couple immediately set out to make a bucket list for Doldol.
Their plan was to spend as much time as they could with their baby before her short time was up.
For starters, they took a family photograph together so they could have a keepsake.
Then, they decided to take a few family trips that would include beach walks and traveling to somewhere with snowfall, which was Doldol’s favorite kind of weather.
While on the way to their final family trip, they decided to stop by a snowy field in order to get out for a stretch and take a break from driving.
However, when they let Doldol out of the car, she immediately headed for the glistening field, yet she didn’t get too far. Sadly, she suddenly dropped to the ground and was unable to pick herself back up!
Doldol had simply died right there in the snowy field.
Though this was devastating, she had actually lived a lot longer than expected. As despite the diagnosis, and being told she had 2 months left, Doldol fought the disease and kept on going strong for 2 years until passing away that day in 2013.
Doldol was great source of inspiration and encouragement for this caring couple, especially since they had been through other traumatic troubles.
During the 1990s, Kang Won Rae was a member of a popular dance group in Korea called Clon. However, a serious traffic accident in 2000 left him completely paralyzed from the waist down.
For a dancer, having to sit idle in a wheelchair is extremely tough, but life can be quite unfair. Furthermore, Kim Song was constantly coping with infertility issues.
This enduring couple spent ten years of trying almost everything to have a child, including artificial insemination, but they had no success.
That’s why Doldol truly was their only child, who had brought warmth and happiness to their home. Naturally, her death caused them terrible sadness and depression. However, they still refused to give up!
Well, it’s a good thing they didn’t give up, because less than two months after Doldol’s death, the couple was crying tears of joy when they received some surprising news.
Their latest artificial insemination had succeeded and decade-long dream had finally come true!
Many believe that this miracle may somehow be a final parting gift from Doldol as a display of her deep gratitude for the boundless love, kindness, and care that she had received from them.
She may be gone now, but their first child will never ever be forgotten!
